Why Is Organic Vegetable Gardening the Way to Go
Farming is a $6 billion industry in the United States. To keep it that way, and with the public’s health and welfare in mind, the Department of Agriculture has taken steps to allow farmers to transition to organic farming. This not only saves money but also has some health advantages.
But first, we must define organic farming. This is a technique used by ancient civilizations who relied solely on the land they worked on, the sun, and the water to grow their crops.
Only after scientists invented fertilisers and pesticides did we abandon this method, believing that it would increase crop size and speed up harvesting.
Unfortunately, fertilisers and pesticides have caused more harm than good. The chemicals used are dangerous, but never in small amounts. But what if someone consumes this in large quantities and unknowingly develops an illness or their baby is born with birth defects?
Such threats are real, which is why we must act before they occur. Before the Department of Agriculture mandated that everyone practise organic farming, tests were carried out.
According to the findings, organically grown vegetables contain more nutrients and vitamins than conventionally grown vegetables. The same can be said for its flavour.
Organic vegetables are free of hydrogenated fats, artificial flavour or colouring, sweeteners, additives, preservatives, and antibiotic residues. This means that everything you get is entirely natural. But don’t forget to wash these before cooking to remove any residue from the compost that was used to help it grow.
The government, or the Department of Agriculture, should not be the only one to encourage farmers to switch to organic farming. You can help by talking to the farmers who are responsible for planting them. You can also begin planting organically grown vegetables yourself because they are slightly more expensive in the supermarket.
Before you begin planting, determine the size of the area so you know what types of vegetables can be planted given your limited space. Then you must purchase the necessary tools and construct some of them yourself. This information is available online, in books, and at gardening stores.
If you don’t want to start an organic vegetable garden from seeds, you can get starter plants instead, but be aware that they are more expensive and take the fun out of gardening.
But if money isn’t an issue, go ahead and get it from the store. Just make sure there’s a stamp that says it’s been approved by the Department of Health, Quality Assurance International, California Certified Organic Farmers, or Oregon Tilth Farm Verified Organic.
No one will use chemicals or fertilisers if everyone does their part. Everyone can live a healthy lifestyle and eat a healthy diet. At the same time, we are able to protect the environment so that future generations will be able to plant their crops on the land we have used.
